That’s right, I haven’t abandoned the blog, I’ve merely been preoccupied lately.

Some new news, though. RomUlation.net now has a Review section, and I highly recommend you get over there and review something, pronto! We’re awarded monthly prizes now, mainly consisting of 300 Points. We may award more though depending on how great of a review it is, and there may be more than 1 winner depending on how many reviews there are, so have no fear about your chances.

The winner for February 2008 was ~Vincent_Valentine~ with his review of skate., so go check it out!

Also, go check out AudioSurf. It’s a fantastic rhythm game that’s a steal at $10.

Other than that, I really have nothing else to tell you right now. Life on IRC is rather boring at times, we need more members on there!

That’s all for now,

Winterreise

P.S. Be on the lookout, I hear the RomUlation admin team may be making a RomU-blog, too…

Ali stood at the side of the ruins, bored. It was near mid-day, and nothing had occurred yet. His brother, Hassan, stood at the other side of the ruins, a short distance away. Ali considered calling out a greeting to him, but dismissed the idea. It was his first day on the job as an Acre guard, and he didn’t want to appear unworthy.

Noise. Footsteps.

Ali spun around, but saw only a scholar walking down the gravel road towards the ruins. Ali was not overly worried, he had heard from other guards that scholars liked to walk amongst the ruins, examining their designs. Ali couldn’t understand why they would enjoy looking at rocks, but he only watched as the scholar walked past him towards the ruins. Ali turned away, uninterested.

Something came to Ali’s mind. It was midday. Why was the scholar not at the temples in Acre? He started to turn around to confront the man, but the blade hit the soft flesh of his throat before he could.

I’ve been working on this little project for a few weeks now, and thought I’d let you guys know about it.

The startup screen of R@H

The startup screen of R@H.

Basically, R@H (Romulation @ Home) is an RSS/XML reader for the RomUlation feeds. It reads the newest games, forums posts, and announcements, and displays them in a user-friendly manner, which will be very customizable.

After you click ’start’ on the main screen, R@H takes you to this:

The 'home' screen of R@H.

The ‘home’ screen of R@H.

The first thing you should notice is the beautiful artwork in the background. This was made by Samakor, better known as Sam. Let’s give him a big thanks by visiting his site and playing his games!

The feed boxes on this page are where the newest games, posts, etc. will be displayed once they have finished loading.

At the very bottom is a News Ticker. The ticker loads data directly from my blog, and places it at the bottom. Handy information, and notifications of new versions will be shown here. See the image below.

The Options page of R@H.

The feeds once they have finished loading.

In the top-right is an Options button, which is where we’ll go next. Clicking on Options brings you to this page.

As you can see, there is not much here at the moment. This is the area which I am focusing on most right now. So far, you only have the option to disable the feed boxes and the News Ticker. Another ability you have is to drag the feed boxes wherever you want, allowing more customization. See image below.

Customized page.

A page that has been customized.

One more thing. You may have noticed the trucks and cars along the bottom of the screen. These vehicles cross in a random order. One time you may have a red car, but the next it may be a truck delivering ‘Loony Lions’ or ROMs. You never know.

What’s in Store for R@H:

Currently, there is very little customization you can do. As this is only an Alpha (4.0, to be exact), that is to be expected. In the next release, the following options will be available.

  • The ability to choose the opacity of the feed boxes using a slider.
  • The ability to choose the background color of the feed boxes.
  • The ability to choose whether the feeds display title and information, or just title.
  • The ability to toggle cars and trucks on/off.
  • More feeds.
  • The ability to load your own picture as the background.

Well, that’s all the information I have right now on my little project, but I hope you enjoyed learning about it. I’ll keep working, and more updates will be available later.

If you have any ideas or suggestions for R@H, leave a comment with it! Feedback is always appreciated.

Regards,

The Winterr Blog is fully compatible with the NDS, PSP, and Wii browsers. However, as I have none of these systems, I haven’t been able to test the blog on them. Could anyone with any of these systems pull up the blog and tell me if it works OK?

Leave a comment with the results if you do.

I’m sure a lot of RomUlation users are really looking forward to the release of the RomUlation Tracker, so I went to Seph to get some more information to tide over our users before it arrives.

Q: What will be made available on the RomUlation tracker?

A: Whatever files users choose to upload, that is related to emulation. No movies or PC games, etc. will be allowed.

Q: Will the RomUlation admin team be uploading files?

A: No. The Tracker is by the community, for the community. The admin team will not regularly be contributing content, that’s what the actual RomUlation site is for.

Q: Will any RomUlation user be able to use the tracker to their advantage?

A: As long as a user has a working RomUlation account, they will be able to use the tracker.

Q: Will there be a minimum sharing ratio users will have to adhere to?

A: Yes - we will be blocking, if not banning, users who get below a certain ratio (to be decided). A tracker is about a community that shares, so people who don’t share will have to stick to the normal site.

Q: Will our premium users have certain advantages when using the Tracker?

A: Perhaps :)

Q: Will users who meet a certain upload criteria be rewarded? (Possibly with points?)

A: We have yet to consider any rewards for dedicated uploaders.

Q: Is there a projected date on when the tracker will be available?

A: I plan to release it on the first day that does not end with a ‘y’.

Q: Haha, alright Seph. Thanks for your time!

A: No problem, Winterreise! I’m always happy to satisfy the curiosity of our users.

So there you have it! Hopefully some of those questions have peaked your interest about the upcoming RomUlation tracker! Check back often, you never know when more information will be available.

Regards,

- Winterreise
